“You are the light of the world.” – Jesus, Matthew
5:14
This is a letter that I sent out to my supporters regarding the team. I felt it would be good to post it here as well. Please click more to read the whole article.
Many times I find that after you’ve
walked with God many a mile, you can look back, and begin to see God’s big
picture amongst the struggles and instances where your mind cries out, “Why
God, why?”. So it is with Jesus Lives. God began things leading to Jesus Lives
way back. Three years ago, I joined a simple gaming team for a game called
Halo. That was the first time I was exposed to the online gaming world. My team
leader disbanded the team about a month ago, but I stayed on, and with two good
friends took care of things concerning the team till last summer. This was
about the time God had begun to change my life as well.
And slowly my affiliation with that
team had to come to an end, because God, or myself for that matter could not
see me playing for a team entitled “Born 4 War”. And so events came about when I
had to leave the team in others’ hands for a programming contest in the States.
I didn’t pick up the ruins and push forth; rather I figured I should give
University more attention. And as I was going through University, I started to
realize that gaming was in a way a part of me. I loved it. But then came the
question, what does God have to say about it? I couldn’t just join any gaming
team. I was too sensitive to swearing for one, and I couldn’t handle all the
other stuff that goes on in a lot of online gaming teams. And so 40 days after
God dropped the idea into my heart, Jesus Lives was born.
Why “Jesus Lives” some ask – it’s a funny name for a gaming team they
say. I had many names in mind, but this was the one that stuck out. Jesus Lives
in and through us, apart from being at the right-side of God in Heaven.
Secondly, it gives a clear picture of what the team is all about. It is a Christian
team with a clear goal of keeping Christ first.
One for All & All for One. This was chosen as the tagline (or motto) because Christ died for All of us – he
nailed our sins to the Cross. Now it’s our
turn to pick up our Cross, and stand up for
him, wherever we go.
I’d like to address yet another
issue I faced myself. How can you be a Christian and play video games where you
are killing each other? I’ll use an illustration a pastor used online. Our
society itself is against killing. Yet about 50% of us play video games. The
point I’m trying to point out here is – it’s
a game! However, we need to watch ourselves, like Paul tells us. If games
are ruining our character, giving us thoughts of violence, then we need to
stop! Most of us see the games we play online just as any normal sport, like
soccer, or closer, chess. As Paul hints at in Romans 14, if one is convicted by playing games, he should stop!
The second thing I’d like to say
about making a Christian team for gaming comes from Matthew 5:14. We are the light of the world. We need
to step up, and represent Christ wherever we go. At work, school, home, online,
or like we do, in the online gaming world.
Lastly, I’d like to talk about
perseverance in the LORD, and also about the “Year of Jubilee” declared at my
home church. I started the team about 5 months ago, and at the start the growth
was slow. And we were also doing more gaming than doing anything spiritual.
There were many times I felt like giving it all up. Yet through many people,
God gave me confirmation to keep pressing on! And God is definitely a just and
faithful God, like John writes in 1 John1:9. As I’m writing this, we now have prayer meetings every single day, online,
and have just launched our online
Discipleship Group yesterday. Everyone loves it, thanks to God. God also
gave us the privilege of leading three people to Christ, online. We also
maintain a chat channel on IRC called #jesus
on the gamesurge network, which is a channel where we talk about Jesus!
Amongst ourselves, or with the many gamers whom God leads to us everyday! We
are doing so-so in the gaming aspect, but I am sure that as long as we seek
first his kingdom, we are walking in his will, and as he says - he is with us,
to the very end of the age.
God Bless ‘_^
